Designing Intelligent Student Guidance

An AI-powered experience that transforms fragmented academic data into a proactive, personalized guidance system.

The Opportunity

Our platform supported thousands of students, but academic progress was fragmented across static degree audits, disconnected information, and reactive support. We saw an opportunity to rethink the experience as a dynamic progress journey that could help students understand where they stood, identify opportunities to move forward, and access guidance when they needed it.

This initiative became an early foundation for our broader AI strategy.

I led the experience design and defined the vision for how AI could be integrated into the existing ecosystem. Working closely with product, I translated emerging AI capabilities into scalable experience opportunities and created the final animation assets used to communicate the strategic vision across the organization.

Project Goals

  • Make complex information actionable through a redesigned progress dashboard that gave students a clear view of where they stood and what they needed to do next.

  • Connect progress to opportunity by surfacing relevant certifications and showing how additional learning could influence degree outcomes.

  • Create a more accessible support layer through conversational AI that allowed students to ask questions, explore options, and receive guidance in a natural way.

  • Establish a scalable AI framework that could extend beyond a single feature and support a broader ecosystem of intelligent student experiences.

Strategic Impact

The work was presented by our VP as a strategic vision for AI across the organization’s largest platform.

Rather than functioning as a standalone feature concept, the work became a vision setting artifact that Product and cross-functional teams used to identify scalable AI opportunity spaces, align around an experience direction, and inform future AI solution roadmapping.

Most importantly, it shifted the conversation from “How do we enhance this feature?” to “How might AI fundamentally improve the way students navigate a complex system?”
